Research abstract

BCL proposes developing a Knowledge Management Center (KMC) that allows mobile warriors to access information quickly and easily. Key innovations in the KMC are aggregation of knowledge in an XML meta-database, access to the database via PDAs, Laptops, andDesktops over secure land and wireless lines, the ability to request data with natural spoken language commands, and the ability to transform the data to the appropriate format for line speed and device form factor using XSLT style sheets. BCL's KMC can beused by soldiers in the field, for tactical operations and for military planning. Health care applications include use by medical staff to access patient records and medical information. Civilian applications are targeted at mobile professionals needingaccess to corporate and internet information rapidly and easily. The total market for the KMC system is expected to hit $250 billion in 2005.
