Research abstract

Freyja Healthcare’s VereSee™ is a groundbreaking FDA-cleared 2mm imaging device, offering real-time, high-definition visualization during laparoscopic surgery and abdominal inspections. The device addresses critical safety concerns, reducing the complications associated with blind-entry methods like the Veress needle and traditional trocars, which contribute to one death and eight injuries daily in U.S. laparoscopic procedures. VereSee’s minimally invasive design provides surgeons and medics with a safer, more precise tool for abdominal access. To date, Freyja has secured 17 granted patents and 21 pending patents, validating its approach as innovative and unique.VereSee is FDA-cleared as a non-portable device, demonstrating its technical merit. This Phase I project will focus on making the VereSee device portable for use in field environments by integrating a ruggedized battery and screen, allowing for deployment in austere military conditions. By aligning with the Air Force's core competency of rapid global mobility, VereSee will support medics in providing immediate life-saving care in the field, enhancing the survival rates of wounded soldiers. Its ability to swiftly diagnose abdominal trauma—which comprises up to 15% of battlefield injuries—without the need for full operating room procedures will reduce medical evacuations and improve combat casualty care outcomes.
