Research abstract
Objective of Phase I Research - Develop coating that is disruptive in the thermal infrared (IR) wavelength region. - Test product for effective thermal IR and optical camouflage. - Apply product to textile substrate. MK Research, Inc., MKR, has developed the ability to analytically determine a coating formulation that can produce the desired optical and IR characteristics. This is achieved through extensive computer simulations that incorporate input parameters which allow the user to customize the simulation to his particular need. Several tunable materials (in the 300 - 1200 nm range) have been synthesized and tested with excellent agreement to the data obtained b the simulations. In addition, MKR has developed novel microfiber technologies which can be used to incorporate the multispectral materials within, thus providing the alternative of weaving new textiles if desired. MKR is also currently pursuing the use of conductive polymers as a means to camouflage radar returns. Among other applications of these radar absorbent materials include the capaiblity to decontaminate radar return.
