Research abstract

Recently, a collaborative effort by scientists from UNIAX and AT&T Bell Laboratories has indicated a simple alternative path to the integration of monolithic light sources with Si circuitry through the use of semiconducting electroluminescent polymers. In this preliminary work, polymer light emitting diodes (PLEDs) were successfully fabricated on doped Si substrates. UNIAX proposes to complete the demonstration of integration of polymer LEDs with silicon (or other inorganic semiconductor) electronics by fabricating prototype devices consisting of PLEDs on silicon substrates containing field effect transistors. The underlying inorganic "electronics" will then be used to drive the organic light source.
