Research abstract

LIS Technologies Inc.'s Condensation Repressing Isotope Separation by Laser Activation (CRISLA) technology presents a new paradigm in uranium enrichment and isotope production, providing a highly efficient, cost-effective solution for critical needs in nuclear energy, medical isotope production, and semiconductor manufacturing. For military applications, CRISLA offers the Department of the Air Force a domestic, scalable, and secure uranium supply, ensuring stable fuel for nuclear energy and nuclear-powered systems like ballistic missiles and long-range bomber arsenals. CRISLA not only reduces reliance on foreign suppliers but also significantly lowers enrichment costs, enhancing energy security and operational resilience in contested environments. Future R&D efforts will focus on refining CRISLA’s capabilities for military-grade specifications and scaling deployment to meet broader defense and commercial needs. The CRISLA process leverages advanced laser systems to selectively excite and separate desired isotopes, offering a highly efficient and scalable alternative to traditional uranium enrichment methods like gas centrifuges and diffusion. By utilizing a continuous wave laser operating at a 5-micron wavelength, CRISLA maximizes energy utilization, reduces operational costs, and enables single-stage enrichment up to LEU and HALEU levels. This patented approach has been validated in multiple lab settings, overcoming historical engineering scaling challenges, and offers a lower-cost solution at less than $30 per Separative Work Unit (SWU), significantly outperforming competitors.
