Research abstract

We propose a systematic study on the implementation and expansion of the MIT research prototype sensor CyPhER (Cyber Phenomenology Exploration & Reasoning) with the 16th Air Force to secure Air Force networks. CyPhER provides long-range wide-area detection-based defense and using observe-pursue-counter doctrine to create an early warning cyber system to address the critical problem of how to synoptically observe networks to determine intrusions.   With the support of the 16th Air Force, DAF MIT AI Accelerator, and USAF Cyberworx, we will assess the alignments of the CyPhER cyber security tool within AF missions and systems. Using our team’s expertise to identify gaps and needs, we will create and execute on a technology development and commercialization roadmap to enable wide-area network detection, including space based systems.  This SIBR directly satisfies the capability gap within DAF Operational Imperative: Objective One—Defining Resilient and Effective Space Order of Battle and Architectures
