Research abstract

THIS PROPOSAL ADDRESSES THE NEED FOR SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY TO SUPPORT FUTURE SPACE BASED APPLICATIONS THAT DEPEND ON THE AVAILABILITY OF MASSIVELY PARALLEL OR CONCURRENT SYSTEMS, SPECIFICALLY LARGE SCALE SIMD/MIMD TERAOP CLASS COMPUTERS. THE WORK DESCRIBED IN THIS PROPOSAL IS TO DEVELOP A SET OF SPECIALIZED SOFTWARE TOOLS THAT PROVIDE ALGORITHM DEVELOPERS WIRH A RAPID MEANS OF PROTOTYPING PARALLEL ALGORITHMS FOR THEIR APPLICATIONS OR LIBRARIES. THESE TOOLS WILL BE OPTIMIZED FOR PROBLEMS THAT OCCUR IN CRITICAL SPACE BASED MISSIONS WHERE LOW LATENCY COMPUTATIONS ARE ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. THE TOOL IS CALLED THE SYMBOLIC PARALLEL ALGORITHM DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT (SPADE).
