Research abstract

This proposal is for a feasibility study to develop an interface system capable of presenting data from multiple sources and of varying types to operator in an easy, clear and unambiguous manner. The proposed standar interface system will be based on the Multi-dimensional, User-oriented Synthetic Environment (UuSE). UuSE has been developed at DOE's Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, NM, and licensed to VIGA Technologie Corporation. UuSE is a wrap-around synthetic environment shell, designed to enha human-computer collaboration. It is both hardware and software- independent, providing interactive user tools for many desirable functio It is designed for real-time operations, and supports and displays simultaneous heterogeneous environments, e.g., flat screen display, VR display, haptic devices. It can utilize multiple processor inputs simultaneously, if desired. It has a demonstrated capability of providi mdata fusionff among disparate data sets and simulations not originally designed to work together. We propose to study the feasibility of extending the range of UuSE capabilities to incorporate all the kinds of data -- real-time, modeled and simulated -- required by the Navy, and to demonstrate the feasibility of providing a standard, generic UuSE software interface for all data fusion needs.
