Research abstract

It is difficult to exchange and use information between different office automation software tools. The user must spend excessive time learning and linking tools rather than doing the primary job. The proposed open framework expert system approach makes the technology of the tools transparent to the end user and allows the easy exchange and use of information from many databases, word processing, spreadsheets, schedules, E-mail, etc. The end user can concentrate on doing the required job and using the data - without writing code: Phase I SBIR technical objects to be completed: 1. Develop prototype interactive graphical user interfaces (GUIs). 2. Develop prototype interactive expert knowledge base models to present processes, create documents, and link with other software programs. The Integrated Desktop Work Area computer aided knowledge engineer mode easily captures and updates corporate work/planning processes and procedures in a expert knowledge base model in days, not months - without writing code. The information is displayed in IDEFO, ANSI, and user defined flow chart formats with hypertext and graphics guidance material linked to each node and line of the flow chart. The ease of creating and updating the expert model ensures it will be current. Only information required by the user is presented - eliminating the intimidation of a multitude of large, overlapping databases and guidance documents that must be reviewed for each project. The computer aided expert guidance makes it easier to create differnt types of documents, reducing the time to create documents from weeks to hours.
