Research abstract

The process of designing and evaluating advanced aircraft coatings can be made more efficient, more robust, and less expensive through application of highly accurate and flexible computer models. The General Scattered Light (GSL) model is such a signature analysis tool, but its potential is difficult to access by untrained or infrequent users, seriously limiting its value. We propose to overcome this limitation through the application of an OSF/Motif-compliant graphical user interface to GSL. The interface will build on an existing interface for the SPIRITS/ACI model, and will portable to most Unix/X-windows platforms. Aerodyne Research developed te HARDBODY/GSL code (an essential component of GSL), created the SPIRITS/AC1 user interface, has extensive experience in integrating SPIRITS model components and is therefore uniquely positioned to bring usability to GSL without restricing its capabilties. The improved access to model functionality thus achieved will save analysts significant amounts of time and effort when evaluating the signature control capabilties of proposed coatings.
