Research abstract

Advances in UV oxidation technology are permitting the technology to penetrateinto the market for treating higher concentrations of organic waste in water.Within the past 5 years, treatment limits have increased from 10 ppm to over 1000ppm TOC in waste waters. However, at these higher concentrations, unit treatmentcosts have also increased from tens of cents to tens of dollars per thousandgallons treated. A significant portion of the cost is the cost of the oxidantat theses high concentration levels. The proposed research is to demonstratethat oxidant can be produced on line at a cost of 1/3 of the bulk commercialprice for oxidant.
