Underwater Mine Location Processing System

Dynamics Technology, Inc. (DTI) proposes to develop an advanced processor for ElectroMagnetic (EM) detection of underwater mines. The processor consists a bank of Matched Filters (MF) for the scattered EM pulses from the mine. The MF templates are determined from predicted scattered signals over the range possible scattering depths and horizontal geometries. The MF templates are be calculated using a high fidelity pulse simulator developed for this purpose. The processor will be optimal to within the accuracy of the predicted pulse DTI will assess of the potential capability of the EM pulsed system. The processor will be tested with both Navy supplied and simulated data, and the processor performance evaluated. The relative merits of differing pulse types will be examined by quantifying system performance over a range of scattering geomet Both tone bursts and square wave pulses will be examined. The processor gain with coherent processing of the three EM field components will be determineo potential performance of the system will be quantified and a system configuration for the Phase II development and testing will be determined.
