Research abstract

In order to improve the performance of missile guidance via radar, MARK Resources proposes to develop an integrated approach to target imaging, aimpoint selection, robust tracking, and fuzing. The goal is to hit the designated aimpoint with high accuracy even when the target maneuvers, and in the presence of interference. Extracting usable information on the target from the radar image will be based on a novel signal processing technology, that was originally developed for aircraft identification, and has proven to be highly successful in that application. In fact, the aimpoint selection will be a natural extension of the identification process. What distinguishes our signal processing technology is that it is based on an analysis of the complex image, whereas conventional methods utilize only the image amplitude. It turns out that most of the useful information about a target is in the image phase. During Phase I we plan to demonstrate the potential of the technology for aimpoint selection by using real radar data. Guidance performance will be established through simulation.
