Research abstract
Selas Energy proposes EnergyOS, a cloud-based platform designed to transform outdated energy infrastructures into smart, resilient grids for the Air Force. This platform leverages advanced AI/ML algorithms to optimize energy distribution, improve grid security, and integrate diverse energy sources, including renewables. EnergyOS enhances operational readiness by reducing energy waste, minimizing outages, and providing real-time data for informed decision-making. The solution also offers robust cybersecurity protections, ensuring the integrity of military energy systems, which are critical to Agile Combat Employment (ACE) and other missions. The project targets a defense need to improve energy resilience and reduce the vulnerabilities of existing military power systems, which consume over 30 terawatt-hours of electricity annually. By integrating flexible, source-agnostic microgrids, EnergyOS could save the U.S. electricity system up to $4.5 billion annually through optimized energy use and enhanced grid stability. Commercially, EnergyOS is positioned to capture part of the growing virtual power plant market, projected to expand from $710 million in 2020 to $6.47 billion by 2028.
