Research abstract

Lockheed Martin’s Northstar SLAM system delivers great no-emit position estimation for UAV, but it doesn’t work well over low-feature areas (lakes, desert, snow, etc); Rhoman Aerospace’s drift-correction and map-matching solutions use object and feature detection systems to reduce drift in SLA-based systems and estimate UAV absolute location after cloud-break, key instances where SLAM systems cannot maintain a position estimate SLAM: SLAM works well when there are features directly beneath the UAV and when cloud-cover doesn’t interfere with continuous GPS-Denied position estimationMap-Matching: Roman’s map-matching system provides a position estimate in case of loss of continuous SLAM ground trackingDrift Correction: Drift-correction modules tracks distance to mulitple environmental features to triangulate position until return to SLAM trackable ground
