Research abstract

USAF is actively seeking solutions to enhance its operational capabilities with ground-launched, long-range Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) platforms that can operate effectively in challenging environments. Curable Composites will utilize its patented composite additive manufacturing technology to develop field-deployable manufacturing platforms for rapid fabrication of modular UAS. The design of UAS will be guided by Black Swift Technologies, a key partner in the proposed effort. Use of Curable's technologies allows for rapid production of lightweight, complex composite structures with minimal energy input. In addition, use of lightweight, collaborative robots allows for integrating functional sub-components during the manufacturing process, allowing for rapid, autonomous development of modular UAS on the field and in hard-to-access regions. Curable advanced manufacturing technologies and Black Swift's UAS designs will enable rapid, cost-effective, automated, and resource-efficient production of Group 1 and Group 2 UAS for the Department of the Air Force (DAF), surpassing current state-of-the-art methods.
