Research abstract

DVC will develop a prototype implementation of a platform independent, generic, configurable software library to provide the ability to add sophisticated spatial access methods to an existing IG. This library will spatially group all data registered withit and provide a number of spatial access methods. Spatial access methods include insertion and removal of objects, range queries, and intersection queries. These methods would be independent from the database runtime structure and format used by an IG.The spatial access library will be the foundation for rigorous scene management algorithms including view-port and occlusion culling, collision detection, dynamic terrain, line-of-sight, height-above-terrain, and others.DVC also proposes to develop a sensor model that will allow real-time computation of the radiance of each object face by a pre-processor system. These computations are a function of time of day, the face orientation and material code. Constants for thismodel can be generated off line and used in real time with material codes. We will also develop and prototype a post processor card that will modify the video output from the pre-processor (or existing FLIR IG) before passing it on to the display.
