Research abstract
Null Convention Logic is a revolutionary new approach to digital circuits which replaces Boolean logic and provides a complete and general solution to practical speed independent logic circuits and systems. It is fundamentally different from Boolean logic, integrating data processing and control in ways that Boolean logic for electronic implementation (e.g. simple gates, etc.). It is expressed as a form of discrete threshold logic entirely in terms of "M of N" threshold gates and is comparable in terms of transistor count to functionally equivalent Boolean circuits. Clocks require a significant investment in design, fabrication and life cycle costs. All design & manufacturing issues and all failure modes due to timing problems are eliminated with NULL Convention Logic. There is no appeal to any authority external to the circuit itself, such as a clock or delay line. Phase 1 will demonstrate the feasibility of NULL Convention Logic circuits, providing transistor-level circuit designs, circuit level trade studies.
