Research abstract

This effort will develop the design for a small and inexpensive inertial attitude system that will provide a two-axis optical inertial reference for a variety of optical pointing and tracking system applications. The unit, which will use all COTS components will have a volume of <3 inches on a side and be suitable for mounting on the secondary mirror of a beam expanding telescope. Linear accelerometers (3-axis) will be included in the design to measure the base motion disturbance environment and to allow the same package to be used in an (optional) inertial navigation system. Applications include beam path stabilization for laser pointing systems, image stabilization for airborne and ground imaging sensors, and airborne lasercom systems.
