Research abstract

Not Available Attaching objects quickly, quietly, reliably and securely underwater is required for various operations by Navy Divers. To present most of these objects have been attached to surfaces magnetically. Magnets can be detected and removed, redeeming an operation unsuccessful. Various other methods have been explored, but the harsh environmental conditions have limited approaches such as adhesives. The concept proposed here attaches mechanically to ill prepared surfaces. No adhesive and surface treatment is required. The device can attach to non-ferrous surfaces. The device utilizes a vacuum not unlike the system used by an octopus. This ensures reliable, quiet and secure attachment to any surface.
