Research abstract

CANDELA LASER CORPORATION IS PROPOSING THE DEVELOPMENT OF ANAFFORDABLE OPTICAL TWEEZERS MICROSCOPE SYSTEM BASED ON COUPLING A DIODE LASER BEAM TO AN INVERTED MICROSCOPE, IN ORDER TO SATISFY A MARKET NEED AMONG RESEARCH WORKERS IN BIOTECHNOLOGY AND THEREBY STIMULATE ADVANCES IN CELLULAR BIOLOGY. THE TRAPPING PROPERTIES OF INEXPENSIVE, HIGH POWER, MULTIMODE DIODE LASERS WILL BE EXPLORED FOR THIS APPLICATION, AND COMPARED WITH SINGLE MODE DIODE LASERS. INADDITION, THE POTENTIAL FOR OPTICAL DAMAGE AS A FUNCTION OF AVAILABLE HIGH POWER DIODE LASER WAVELENGTHS, WILL BE INVESTIGATED. THE PROGRAM WILL DRAW UPON THE LASER/OPTICS EXPERTISE EXISTING WITHIN CANDELA TO DEVELOP AND ENCOURAGE THE UTILIZATION OF THIS UNIQUE BIOPHYSICS TOOL.
