Research abstract

"There is a need in the modern military to train soldiers in the detection and identification of RF signals such as cellular, radar, INMARSAT, military communications, etc. Currently soldiers are given what amounts to "on the job" training in signalrecognition. There is no specific training system for this application. More specifically there is no system that would allow a soldier to train on these signals either in an informal setting, a formal "school house" setting, or in the field undersimulated battlefield conditions. The proposed program will develop for SOCOM a system to meet the signal identification training requirements of the modern military. The proposed system will provide for informal video game-type training, formal classroom training, and transmission modefor field exercises. To proposed system will be based on the Ontar developed TENOR (Training and Education Network on Request). TENOR is a highly sophisticated Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) system, which is being implemented under an SBIR program for the US Air ForceResearch Laboratory (AFRL/HEA), under contract F33615-01-C-6017 (Topic AF00-100, "ADL for Force Protection Training Technology").TENOR will be the ADL training distribution media and interface for the proposed program. It leverages internet/intranet technology to deliver high quality content almost instantly to any location. The system has advantages which make it ideal for thisapplication. The
