Research abstract
To address the Air Force's need for advanced surgical training solutions that maintain and enhance surgeon proficiency despite the decline in combat operations and limited procedures in military hospitals, we propose the K181 VR surgical simulator. Our platform provides realistic, patient-specific operative training environments, enabling military healthcare organizations to mitigate the loss of surgical skills—often referred to as "walker dip"—particularly in critical areas like micro hand surgery. By incorporating real-time feedback, haptic force-feedback robots, and immersive operating theaters, the K181 VR simulator offers a cost-effective, reusable training tool that surpasses traditional methods, ensuring readiness and excellence in surgical care.
