Research abstract
Not Available There exists a need within the military and civilian sectors for a system that marries the best qualities of an underwater SLR camera with a camcorder. The IEM system will possess the capability to capture still images, variable frame rate color video up to 30-fps, and audio onto recordable media. The system will employ advanced electronics to create a fully automatic and fully user selectable camera within the same package. This system will use interchangeable and waterproof lenses within the 28mm to 2000mm focal lengths. These lenses will contain auto-focus circuitry that may be defeated for manual operation further extending their capability. Other user selectable features include time and date stamps, exposure control, through the lens metering approach (center weighted, 5 zone, etc.), sealing pressure, and exposure priority. Key areas of innovation include a video camera based upon SLR principles, 30-fps high-resolution color video (> 1 Million Pixels), mass storage using tape or solid state memory technology, and watertight seals between camera bodies and interchangeable lenses. IEM proposes unique, ingenious solutions to each area in this proposal.
