Research abstract

Fulcrum Bioscience and team propose to develop a biosynthetic PFAS alternative based on rhamnolipids. Missouri University of Science and Technology will develop a modified bacteria with surface displayed enzymes to synthesize long-chain b-hydroxyacids which GlycoSurf will combine with xylose to form high purity xylolipids. These xylolipids will possess omniphobicity, resistance to water and oils, at significantly lower cost than competing technologies. Application methods and modification of the xylolipids will also be investigated. The proposed work eliminates PFAS from any step or product and removes the health and environmental issues associated with PFAS production and use.
