Research abstract
A distributed control wireless B-CDMA PCN network using the Asynchronous Transfer Mode cell based architecture and connected to various backbone networks, such as an ATM/SONET is proposed. The wireless PCN network shall be mobile, reconfigurable, have "Multimedia Bearer Capability", work as partof the Global Grid System and have the capability to be incorporated into the Synthetic Theater of War mobile Defense Simulation Internet. The main function of this system is to provide robust wireless multimedia communication capabilities. Key technologies for this investigation incude security, power conservation techniques, network topology/hierarchy, protocols, voice/data contention, adaptive power, range extension in varying terrain, data relaying for range extension, adaptively modifying network base on dwindling power sources, and interfacing/interroperability/internetworking with other radios/networks. The design specification of the PCN network along with it's interface to the ATM/SONET based on the OSI model will be given. The system characteristics will be analyzed and strategies in meeting different objectives such as network efficiency with respect to end-to-end delay and probability of cell loss, reliability, flexibility and availability among otherw will be provided. The study will lead to a radio design which can be embedded on a card or be inserted in the users computer and utilize the computer's functionality.
