Research abstract

Based on Sigma Technologies expertise in the formulation of polymer composites on an industrial scale for a wide variety of applications, and on recent findings about the superior mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes, we propose a solvent freeeconomical process for making large area composites with two exeptional properties, (a) tensile and impact strengths orders of magnitude higher than state of the art, and (b) self monitoring capabilities, that is cracks and structure degradation aredetected immedialtely after their appearance. This new generation of polymer composites will provide a much needed additional protection for law enforcement personnel and equipment. These materials are also expected to find applications in a wide varietyof industries that include sports, aerospace, and automobile.
