Research abstract

Management Communications and Control, Inc. (MCCI) proposes development of a PGM environment for desktop signal processing workstations. A domain engineering inter- face will provide an open architecture to all supported DSPs configured in a variety of architectures. The environment will provide tools for PGM specification of applications using application domain primitives and selection/specification of a target signal processor architecture. Environment tools will optimize the appli- cation for the specified architecture and automatically generate executable appli- cation code. Run-time support will provide efficient, real-time application execution. Command program and execution monitor run-time interfaces will be supported. A GUI command interface will support interactive graph control as an alternative to command programs. The execution monitor will provide a "virtual oscilloscope" capability to interact with application data. Exporting data to and importing data to/from other tools will support interactive use of PGM and other analysis and display tools. The PGM workstation environment will be portable to workstations and PCs with Unix support. Translation support for new DSPs is easily added to the environment. Run-time support is readily ported to new architectures. The environment will be implemented reusing software objects from other PGM efforts to maximize leverage of SBIR funds and minimize technical risk.
