Research abstract

WITH LASER DIODES, A PORTION OF THE OUTPUT OPTICAL SIGNAL CAN BE CONVERTED TO AN ELECTRICAL SIGNAL AND COMPARED WITH THE INPUT ELECTRICAL SIGNAL. THIS COMPARISON GENERATES AN ERROR SIGNAL WHICH, WHEN AMPLIFIED AND APPLIED TO THE LASER, TENDS TO CANCEL DISTORTIONS PRESENT IN THE OPTICAL SIGNAL. THIS TECHNIQUE IS SIMILAR TO NEGATIVE FEEDBACK EMPLOYED IN LOW DISTORTION AMPLIFIERS. USING FEEDBACK, SECOND AND THIRD ORDER DISTORTION PRODUCTS IN LASERS CAN BE REDUCED.
