Research abstract
This project will yield a new software program for parameter identification of dynamic systems using experimental test data. The primary application will be the identification of aerodynamic models governing the motion of aircraft during highly dynamic maneuvers. One innovation of this project is the use of a time- varying nonlinear dynamic model to represent the aerodynamics of the aircraft as opposed to the traditional method using static functions. The other innovation in this work is that the software package will be bundled with a multimedia reference application. The multimedia reference application will be written like a digital textbook about aircraft parameter identification methods and will include text, graphics, simulations, and animation of aircraft motion. It will allow engineers and students to learn about aircraft parameter identification while using the software program to solve research and development problems.
