Research abstract

NAVSYS has developed a small, portable, PC-based Digital GPS Translator Processor (DGTP) system under contract to the U.S. Army, SSDC. This system will process post-test 2 MHz data collected from the NAVSYS miniaturized Digital GPS Translator (DGT). Under this proposed effort, it is proposed to develop a high speed search and acquisition card that will allow the DGTP to acquire and track DGT signals in real-time. NAVSYS have demonstrated previously a proprietary Clock Aided and Virtual IMU Aided acquisition approach that significantly reduces the doppler search range for DGT signal acquisition. The main issue remaining is to develop a board capable of rapidly searching through all 2046 possible code phases of the C/A code. NAVSYS is proposing to use an innovative acquisition algorithm that takes advantage of recent developments in commercial general purpose DSP chips. Benchmark data from these components indicate that the proposed architecture will allow search and acquisition on up to 7 satellites in only 10 msecs of processing time. Under the Phase I contract, NAVSYS will complete the design of the proposed high speed search and acquisition board, and as an option , demonstrate the performance of the search and acquisition process using a prototype card. Under Phase II, a real-time DGTP will be delivered compatible with the NAVSYS miniaturized DGT sensor, the TIDGET.
