Research abstract

The proposed project is to develop a novel polarization-sensitive thermal imaging system to detect, track and identify objects in space, in the air or on the ground. By exploiting polarization signatures, the proposed system will achieve enhanced performance relative to other fully passive systems and be able to detect, track and idetify targets even when their thermal contrast is low. In Phase I, the performance of the infrared search and track system using polarization-sensitive imaging will be evaluated using computer simulations. During Phase II, a hardware prototype of the search and track system will be constructed and tested.
