Research abstract

MEMBRANE GSS SEPARATION SYSTEMS ARE BEING USED IN A NUMBER OF COMMERCIALLY SIGNIFICANT INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES. HOWEVER, WIDESPREAD USE IS LIMITED BY THE MODEST SELECTIVITY AND FLUX OF CURRENT MEMBRANES. THIS PROPOSAL DESCRIBES THE PREPARATION OF INTERFACIAL COMPOSITE MEMBRANES BY A NOVEL TECHNIQUE. THE PERMSELECTIVE LAYER OF THESE MEMBRANES IS POTENTIALLY AS THIN AS 0.05 TO 0.1 . DEFECT-FREE MEMBRANES THIS THIN WOULD REPRESENT A BREAKTHROUGH IN MEMBRANE PERFORMANCE. WHEN SCALED UP, THESE MEMBRANES WOULDFIND A WIDE APPLICATION IN GAS SEPARATION PROCESSES.
