Research abstract
EOO, Inc. proposes to develop a chemical and biological agent detection system (C-BADS) that can perform battlefield surveillance so that information about the presence and nature of chemical and biological hazards can be rapidly conveyed to our battlefield commanders. The ideal capability that is needed, but not currently available, is a sensor suite mounted in an airborne platform that can provide long stand off range, wide are coverage and rapid reaction to chemical and biological hazards. In Phase I, with our key subcontractor SRI, we will use validated simulation models for aerosol scattering, propagation effects, frequency agile DIAL and UV fluorescence to help develop the C-BADS concept. Performance in terms of threat detection range, detection probability and threat concentration will be calculated versus transmitter and receiver parameters for a variety of atmospheric conditions. Values of detection probability and false alarm will be calculated parametrically. Area coverage rates will be determined for various concepts-of-operation. We will also define the technology and technique improvements which can substantially improve detection range versus minimum detectable concentration versus size, weight and power.
