Research abstract

This document presents Optical Sciences Corporation's proposal for the production of an innovative laser projection system for hardware-in-the-loop testing of common aperture multi-mode seekers which utilize a semi-active laser system for acquisition andterminal homing. The OSC SAL projector is designed to be compatible with existing flight motion simulator, IR projection, and MMW anechoic chamber facilities to support testing of multi-mode seekers. The SAL projector is capable of generating realistic SALreturns from targets and backgrounds throughout the missile trajectory. The SAL projector technology developed under this effort will be used in government and contractor HWIL facilities for the simulation and testing of advanced multi-mode missiles andsmart munitions. The use of this SAL projector in HWIL simulation and testing will result in a significant cost savings for missile programs by reducing the number of flight tests required. The technology developed under this effort may also be used inproduction line and depot level testing of fielded weapon systems, resulting in improved reliability and reduced operating costs.
