Research abstract

Optical pyrotechnic devices require 10 nsec pulses with MWatt peak output power levels. Although these power levels have been demonstrated from solid state lasers, the cost, size and complexity of these lasers preclude the practical use of these laser sources. In this proposal SDL will develop a MWatt peak power pyrotechnic device with 10 nsec pulsed operation and 10 mJ output power which is compact and robust and can be fabricated at low cost.
