Research abstract
There is an increased awareness of the possibility of disease transmission between patients as a reimproperly sterilized dental equipment. In particular there is an increased fear of the spread of thviruses. Thus a device for rapid, effective cold sterilization of dental handpieces would be usefulpatient. Our product will eliminate the need of chemical agents to achieve room temperature sterilizhandpieces. It is compact and rugged, avoids the need for sophisticated support or complicated maintminimizes the waste stream and has a very short sterilization cycle. The electrochemical device doeshigh voltage power supply or utilize any hazardous materials. The sterilization is achieved throughas oxidizing radicals that are generated in-situ by an electrical discharge. The use of the novel stthe need for non-renewable chemicals, eliminates the possibility of being toxic to the patient or thproduce waste that needs expensive disposal.
