Research abstract
The objective of this Phase I investigation is to utilize proven vortex entrainment and circulation technology to demonstrate the feasibility of a high flowrate feed system capable of safely delivering energetic materials to molten salt destruction reactors. The use of vortex entrainment technology has successfully proven to be an effective method for material delivery and charging of metallic scrap into molten metal media and has been commercialized in the aluminum recycling / reclamation industry. The transfer of this innovative technology to the Molten Salt Destruction Process is a low risk opportunity that is well worth investigation. Successful completion of this Phase I effort will provide a proof-of-principle demonstration of a feed system capable of delivering wet or dry particles into liquid reactor media for full concept validation and process optimization in actual operating environments during Phase II investigations.
