Research abstract

The contract will develop a Shoulder Launched unmanned Reconnaissance System (SLURS) that can be carried, launched and flown by a single soldier. The system consists of a Reconnaissance Air Vehicle (RAV), Launcher, a Ground Control Subsystem (GCS), and several Individual observer Units (IOU). A complete baseline SLURS system of GCS, Launcher, and RAV weights no more than a Stinger missile. Lightweight and small enough to be carried by infantry on foot, it can also be carried on combat vehicles, special Operations assault craft and , in a special sealed tube, underwater by SEAL teams. Phase I is a ConcePt Evaluation effort involving Systems Engineering, Requirements Analysis, Design and Test to resolve SLURS engineering, integration and user interface issues. An Engineering Test Unit will be built and tested. The three month Phase I Option will refine the requirements for the Individual observer Units, draft and negotiate critical Phase II subcontracts, update the design and conduct additional concept demonstrations of the mu.
