Research abstract

"A program to develop transducers incorporating solid-state converted transductionmaterials for the Next Generation Countermeasure (NGCM) is proposed. The programaddresses the need for a low cost, compact, broadband, high power transducer thatcan be integrated with the NGCM. The program leverages several millions of dollarsof DARPA investment in a pilot manufacturing process for solid state convertedtransduction materials with properties that approach those of single crystaltransduction materials, but which can be fabricated at much lower cost. The Phase Iprogram is directed towards developing a proof of concept transducer design for theNGCM and culminates with an in-water test. The test data shall be scaled to estimatethe performance achievable in a full-scale device. The proposed program spans 6months, with a three month program option. The proposed program shall demonstrate that transducers incorporating solid-stateconverted transduction materials can provide the performance needed to satisfy thedemanding requirements of the US Navy NGCM program. Successful completion of thisprogram will result in a manufacturable transducer design that enhances thecapabilities of the NGCM."
