Research abstract
Time Domain Corporation (TDC) proposes to develop and demonstrate a networked, three-dimensional security dome/intrusion detection radar system utilizing ultra wideband (UWB) radar technology to provide enhanced physical security for Naval facilities andforward deployed forces. This multifunctional sensor system will provide efficient high performance physical security in small Marine/Seal tactical unit operations, as well as asset and secured area protection for naval facilities and in-port ships. Thisproposed Radar Security Dome will enhance situational awareness and physical security while reducing the number of personnel that would otherwise be required to achieve an equivalent level of security.TDC has pioneered the incorporation of UWB technology into lightweight, functional radar units. Prototype hand-held radars for tactical situational awareness already exist and have been tested by the military. With the core technology already committed tosilicon chips, and devices using TDC's PulsON UWB technology already built, tested and demonstrated, the focus of this project is to build a system that will allow rapid research and focus on optimal UWB radar designs. The radar's low transmit power andsimplicity make it safe to operate and suitable for incorporation in lightweight, man-portable devices. In this proposal, TDC presents an approach, based on sound engineering principles, that will lead to a prototype networked, three-dimensional security dome/intrusion detection radar system utilizing ultra wideband (UWB) radar technology that will provideenhanced physical security for Naval facilities and forward deployed forces. The result will be a well developed design that will provide both military and commercial applications in physical security of assets and personnel.
