Research abstract
Environments created from a nuclear event can have a great impact upon the operation of military forces on the battlefield. It is imperative that the associated nuclear effects are portrayed in an environment such as Dirstributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) so that changes canbe made during the weapon system design process to mitigate nuculear effects. These effectscan be extended to other applications to help in disaster planning, rehearsal, and education. This proposal addresses these concerns. We propose to incorporate direct nuclear effects on human performance and equipment damage and secondary effects of humans using damaged equipment into DIS thruch Protocol Data Units (PDUs). Our proposal leverages off previrous and existing work being conducted and extends the ability to portray the effects of nuclear environments through DIS PDSs. The Micro Analysis & Design, Inc. (MA&D) team is made up of MA&D and Kaman Sciences Corporation (KSC) two of the leading organizations studying the effects of nuclear environments. MA&D brings expertise of direct effects from nuclear environments and soldirer/crew modeling. KSC has expertise in developing the environmenatl DIS PDUs that protray the nuclear environments on equipment, structures, and terrain.
