Research abstract
Sleepwalking is an embarrassing and, in some cases, life-threatening arousal disorder associated wisignificant mental health problems. Diagnosis and treatment evaluation has been hampered by the probrelatively rare events. An ambulatory monitor recording body position (AMP) largely resolves this pralso be used for Restless Legs (RL) and other sleep disorders requiring separating events in relatiositting or lying. Medical conditions, particularly osteoporosis, involving standing times for treatmAMP to support compliance and assess treatment efficacy. The AMP provides an enabling technology forclinical evaluations in these areas. Building an easy-to-use miniature AMP recording data every 30-6several days requires development of a special 2-plane, passive sensor to be integrated with the IMSrecording technology. Phase I involves building four prototype monitors and field testing them withsleepwalkers and patients with RL. Phase II will include improved AMP design, clinical evaluation anactivity monitors. A commercial AMP will also be developed to both display minutes of standing/walkipatients and sound a loud alarm for sleepwalkers.
