Research abstract

Central Connecticut Engineering, Inc. proposes to develop the design of a high-power, high-repetition-rate switch for manufacturing. The switch will be capable of continuous operation at 100,000 volts, 100 kilowatts of average power, 100 joules per pulse, and 1000 hertz pulse rates into a low impedance load. The switch inductancee minimized, as consistent with the other requirements, and the capabilities are to be maximized. The switch will be a trigattt spark gap, with a high-pressure hydrogen-gas static fill. Thee design will be based directly on the previous development of devises by NSWCDD. The design will include an integrated cooling system and will be capable of extension to higher voltages and power The design will be rugged and vacuum sealed to meet both mild commercial shock, vibration, temperature, and other enviromemn] conditions. The complete manufacturing process will be specified and a manufacturing plan developed during Phase I.
