Research abstract

Existing heat blankets for composite bonded repair are unsatisfactory because they are incapable of preventing large temperature variations over the surface. Creare proposes to develop a heat blanket that will maintain a constant uniform temperature over the entire surface. More specifically, we will first determine and fully document specifications for the blanket. Then, based on these-specifi- cations and the.innovative approaches described later in this proposal, we will select the best approach for further development. A detailed design will be developed using this approach. To support the design work, a thermal model will be developed to predict the blanket's temperature distribution. The model will incorporate different environmental conditions and variations in the structure being repaired. The final design will be the starting point for our Phase II effort, in which a blanket will be fabricated and thoroughly tested.
