Research abstract

Present sumbarien tactical ESM systems compare measured parameters of target emitter signals to library lookup tables to classify the signals. in cases where the measured parameters are near the boundaries of library classifications, ambiguities and failures result. Fuzzy logic technology offers the potential of successfully and accurately resolving these cases. Software implementing approapriate fuzzy logic algorithms augmenting present emitter classification routines will provide more reliable, robust EXM system performance. This enhanced performance will increase the survivability of the submarine fleet. For Phase I, College Park Software, will analyze the failures of the current tactical ESM systems and derive new fuzzy logic algorithms to address these failures. Building on NDI object-oriented signal recognition software with COTS software engineering tools, College Park Software will incorporate these new algorithms in the existing software, and validate the algorithms. A literature search was conducted through DTIC, but it produced no directly relevant documents. A general literature survey produced only generally relevant documents.
