Research abstract

The proposed effort is aimed at developing dual use concepts and techniques for use in rejuvenation of MMC components which contain classical creep-fatigue damage due to thermomechanical service loading and environment. Additionally, the research will include assessment of as manufactured MMC components which often contain certain types of damage, defects and flaws. The approach in Phase I will rely on available material characterization and damage data. These data will be used as input in a detailed viscoplastic micromechanics and finite element analyses to assess damage and rejuvenation methods. EXperimental validation of the concepts and techniques identified and evaluated in Phase I will be pursued in Phase II.
