Research abstract

We have identified several critical and MICAP (Aircraft Mission Capable Parts) managed by DLA for the B2 Spirit platform, in collaboration with the USAF AFMC AFLCMC/WBZ Bombers directorate, that are facing significant challenges. These parts, which are crucial to the supply chain, are experiencing long lead times of some parts at approximately 1700 days and are also encountering obsolescence issues. Currently, these NSNs have one or no suppliers, many with late deliveries over 365 days leaving the DLA vulnerable to risks such as overpriced suppliers, sole sourcing, or unacceptable delivery timelines. DLA is seeking to expand its Small Business Manufacturer (SBM) base to address the Agency's need for qualified supply sources. This initiative aims to enhance product availability, increase competition to reduce lead times and costs, and address lifecycle performance issues.
