Research abstract

We propose the development of a pIezoelectric pressure transducer to be used in diesel engines for machine health monitoring and inclusion in an engine combustion control system. Reliability, accuracy. and affordability are the focus of this research since these issues remain the most difficult to overcome for the development of a cost effective pressure transducer. Manutacturing costs of $5.00 or less are the target for such a sensor. BENEFITS: The low cost of a pressure transducer will allow the installation of engine health monitoring systems and control systems that will improve performance, save on maintenance costs, extend engine life, and transition from military diesel engines to commercial trucks and automobiles.
