Research abstract

JRM Technologies, Inc., in conjunction with Terrex and CG2, proposes todevelop a low-cost, physics-based spectral scene generator as a reliablealternative to field data collection for the development and evaluationof advanced hyper/multi-spectral sensor concepts and associated signalprocessing algorithms. In Phase I, JRM will develop a scene generatordesign for a Phase II implementation that addresses cost-effectivedatabase generation, realistically complex clutter modeling,physics-based spectral signature and atmospheric synthesis, and opticalsensor effects simulation. To ensure the completeness of the approach, the Phase I effort will also include a rigorous requirements definitionand thorough validation plan. The technologies to be developed as part of this effort have very broadPhase III commercial application, particularly in the field of remotesensing for natural material identification and earth surfaceassessments. A low-cost spectral scene simulator would provide industrya crucial technology component for remote-sensing algorithm improvementtest-beds, and a catalyst for substantially improved GIS products forgeology, land use monitoring, agricultural, and mineral exploration.
